Possibly one of the last ranch-trained ropers, Art Arnold grew up on the Buckeye, Arizona, ranch with his father, Carl, teaching him the basics. The Arnold’s rodeoed throughout much of Arizona but managed to qualify for the Finals numerous times.
Arnold qualified for the first National Finals Rodeo in 1959. He then went to ten of the next twelve, missing the 1964 Finals. In 1967, he finished second in the world behind his partner Joe Glenn. The next year, it was no surprise to anyone that he finished 1968 with the World Championship.
Arnold credits his success to practice and having good horses. He trained his horse Waco from a two-year old. He competed during the era when team roping was split into dally tying and team tying. Arnold was often said to have some of the fastest hands in the team tying.
